The historic landmark Edmonton Auto Spring Works auto shop on Jasper Avenue and 95th street was destroyed by fire on Sunday March 21, 2010. According to fire investigators the fire was due to structural failure when the building's roof collapsed and separated approximately one foot from the top of the north wall. The stress on the wall caused electrical wiring to come into contact with a metal conduit and a metal power switch box. The result was an electrical arc that ignited the fire. The building, a favourite of amateur and professional photographers alike, will be sorely missed. This group was created as a tribute to the century old building (circa 1904) which housed Edmonton Auto Spring Works since 1923. Edmonton Auto Spring Works was founded in 1914 by Henry McCoy. He established the business originally out of a blacksmith shop. Feel free to join the group if you have any photos from this B-list historic building from before, during or after the blaze. Artistic photos are most welcome. I know a few of us have some pretty fancy door knobs, letters, peeling paint and the like. References include the Edmonton Journal and a personal conversation with one of the fire investigators.
