Spenrath wird komplett abgerissen. Der Braunkohletagebau Garzweiler II/ wird sich weiter ausbreiten und es nötig machen das 13 Dörfer umgesiedelt werden müssen: Otzenrath, Spenrath, Holz, Pesch, Lützerath, Immerath, Borschemich,Berverath, Holzweiler, Keyenberg, Kuckum, Oberwestrich and Unterwestrich. Mehr als 7600 Menschen werden zwischen 2000 und 2035 umgesiedelt und eine komplette Landschaft mit allen Häusern, Kirchen, Friedhöfen, Bächen und Feldern wird unwiederbringlich zerstört werden.
