Insects of Australia only. Please. The aim in the group is to have photos of as many species as possible from Australia. By pooling as many images as possible together we hope to create a photographic field guide to Australian Insects. Please feel free to post any insect images in the group, but nothing too blurry thanks! The most important thing is that your images are tagged. In order for the field guide to function it's critical that images in the pool be tagged with as much taxonomic info as is possible. We're aiming for Order, Family, Genus and species. If you know your insect please add these tags. Any tags help to stop your photo being lost in the pool. The links below will show you the insects in the pool for the named orders. Order: Hymenoptera - (ants, bees, wasps, etc.) Order: Odonata - (dragonflies and damselflies) Order: Orthoptera - (grasshoppers, crickets, katydids) Order: Blattodea - (cockroaches) Order: Isoptera - (termites) Order: Mantodea - (mantids) Order: Hemiptera - (true bugs) Order: Diptera - (true flies) Order: Coleoptera - (beetles) Order: Siphonaptera - (fleas and snow fleas) Order: Neuroptera - (net-veined insects) Order: Mecoptera - (scorpionflies, Hanging Flies) Order: Lepidoptera - (butterflies, moths) Order: Phasmatodea - (stick insects, leaf insects) Order: Dermaptera - (earwigs) Order: Plecoptera - (Stoneflies) For butterflies the best nomenclature is to use that in "The complete field guide to the Butterflies of Australia" by Michael Braby as being the most useful and recent guide. If your unsure as to what you've photographed we recommend the ID Please pool. This is great resource for identification of all sorts of things. We also have our own little ID Thread which we encourage you to check out, especially if you happen to be an Australian entomologist. ;-)
