Take the opportunity to share here photos and digital images of Sabah and Borneo. We document life as it is in Sabah, including places and people. Sabah is located on the northern part of Borneo and is one of thirteen states in Malaysia. It is the second largest state in Malaysia after Sarawak, its neighbouring state. Kalimantan is on its border. Sabah used to be a British crown colony known as North Borneo prior to joining Malaysia in 1963. Its state capital is Kota Kinabalu, formerly known as Jesselton. Other main urban areas include Sandakan, Tawau, Semporna, Ranau, Kudat, Kota Belud, Tuaran, Penanpang, Papar and Beaufort [just to name a few] Sabah is sometimes known as Sabah, negeri di bawah bayu, which means 'Sabah, land below the wind'. It is so-called this because of its location which is just below the occasional typhoon prone region near neighbouring Philippines.
