Humber Car Company (1968-1931) The company was formed by Thomas Humber when he set up a bicycle manufacturing company. They produced their first three wheeled car in 1898 and a four wheeler in 1901. The company had factories in Beeston, Nottinghamshire and Coventry but closed the Beeston factory in 1908. By 1913 Humber was the United Kingdoms second largest manufacturer and by 1925 moved into the production of Commercial vehicles with the purchase of Commer. In 1928 Hillman was added, but in 1931 independence ended following a takeover by the Rootes brothers. In world war two Humber produced armoured cars and heavy duty staff cars Post-war era Hawk and Super Snipe range were aimed toward business men and officials. Offering sound well appointed cars. Following the takeover of Rootes by Chrysler the last Humber models became badge engineered former Rootes Arrow series.
