Wolseley illuminating badge.Founded in 1901 by then owners Vickers as an off-shoot of the Wolseley Sheep Shearing company under manager Herbert Austin at Adderley Park, Birmingham . (Austin left in 1905 to form his own company) Bought Siddley in 1905 along with services of new manager John Davenport Siddley who resigned in 1910 and formed Siddley-Deasy. Officially renamed Wolseley Car Company in 1914. In 1922 began Japanesse venture with Ishihawajiama in 1918 first cars 1922. After WW2 company became Isuzu, To eapid an expansion programme in the inter war years left the company facing bankruptcy with a £ 2000000 debt. Swallowed by William Morris' Nuffield organisation in 1927 and production moved to Ward End, Birmingham. Became a subsiduary of Morris in 1935 joined in 1938 by Riley and Autovia. With Nuffields merger with Austin became part of BMC and later British Leyland. Last car to carry a Wolseley badge 1975.
