The Pierce Municipal Park Golf Course (and accompanying tennis courts) were in the area of Flint in which I grew up, the East Village neighborhood. This complex was maybe a five minute bike ride away from my old house. When I used to play tennis at the courts as early as in the Fifth Grade, the actual golf course and clubhouse seemed almost like a forbidden city, restricted to upper-middle class adults who had the money and patience for a upscale game like golf. Seeing this entire complex when I used to ride my bike past it made me feel really good to live in this neighborhood, having nice facilities like these in the immediate area. Envisioning my adult life as a kid, I'm sure at some point I imagined I'd play golf here when I grew up (because that's just what all adults do). Prior to shooting these frames, I can say with 95% certainty that the number of times I had gotten this close to the clubhouse was fewer than the number of fingers on my right hand. Sadly, the surface of the (abandoned) tennis courts is badly cracked, weeds aggressively spreading out in a pattern like flames on a gasoline trail. However, the clubhouse looks pretty good.
