GAZ (Gorkovsky Avtomobiny Zavod)
Formed under a 1929 agreement between the Soviet Union and the Ford Motor Company, under which the Soviets agreed to purchase $ 13 million worth of Automobiles and parts, while Ford agreed technical assistance until 1938, to construct a manufacturing facility at Nizhny Novgorod. Initially called NAZ (Nizhegorodsky Avtomobilny Zavrod). The first cars were Ford Model A (NAZ-A) and AA trucks (NAX-AA). The name changed to GAZ in 1933 when the city was renamed after Maxim Gorky. The Model A based car was followed by a Ford Model B based car after which Soviet designed cars followed
