This is one of two similar macro lenses made for the Exakta system. The 50/2.8 Schacht Macro-Travenar was a two-part affair consisting of a sunk-mount macro lens (lacking focusing facility) paired with a nicely made focusing helicoid (or, to use Schacht's own terminology, "tubus"). The Extenar is sometimes described as nothing more than a rebranded Macro-Travenar, and such an inference seems entirely reasonable: the Extenar, too, features a sunk-mount 50/2.8 lens sold with what is obviously a rebadged Schacht focusing "tubus." (The Extenar is not credited to any lens manufacturer; it's attributed solely to the "Exakta Camera Company, Bronxville, New York".) I'm not at all sure, however, that the two lenses are really identical; the Extenar seems to differ in details of styling and construction from the Macro-Travenar. Perhaps those are mere cosmetic differences; perhaps not. What's beyond dispute, though, is that both lenses are fine performers.
