I'm something of a contemplative by nature, and I hope a little of that is expressed in my pictures. But lately I've become more struck by a tension between photography and contemplation. Like contemplation, photography is foremost about being present and attentive. But contemplation is also about not rejecting or grasping, about letting the moment continue to flow and change. Photography, however, captures, freezes, records. So this set is about consciously attempting to infuse my pictures with more of the contemplative sensibility. Or more accurately, it is about being contemplative while taking taking pictures and letting go of the acquisitive attitude that can so easily dominate picture taking.
